Almost seven miles from St. Johns, high on a rocky cliff on the most easterly point of land in North America, Cape Spear lighthouse served as an important approach light to St. Johns for more than a century. Built in 1834, the lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse in Newfoundland. It has been restored and furnished to acquaint visitors with the flavor of the long-standing history of lighthouses in Newfoundland.(less)
